About
Personal:
Kiersten is an artist specializing in photography, glassblowing and printmaking. She was born in Chicago, where she also graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). She currently resides in Sacramento California.
Work:
Kiersten uses spatial, haptic, optical and affective qualities of the print to create mood pictures, perfectly exemplified in her landscape and architectural photography that she pairs with ruckenfigur neo-romantic imagery of various tourist set-up snapshots. Her works feature portraits of women enacting mysterious rituals reminiscent of eastern-european and Nordic folklore. Kiersten’s art often requires intricate and focused research, and much of her photographs effortlessly incorporate ethnographic and historical research, literary sources, as well as personal narratives. Her practice creates a very particular place, and carries a separate gravity, where storms hover over metropolises, abandoned cityscapes hum with fogs of ruin and the missing populations inhabit disquieting images of popular pastimes, the kinds of
mediated leisure that only capitalism provides.
